Every artist dips his brush into their own soul and paints his own nature into his pictures

Studer Fine Art

Welcome to the Gallery.

Studer Fine Art is a small but beautiful space in the historic market town of Presteigne in the heart of the Welsh Borders. The Gallery hosts a rolling collection of artists and eramics throughout the year. Curated by Richard Studer the gallery features his collection of wood engravings and prints alongside work from artists from across Wales and beyond. The Gallery is open Tuesday -Saturday 10.30am-4pm or by appointment outside of these times.

Richard Studer : Wood Engravings

“My wood engravings celebrate the technique’s origins in book illustration. Story telling has been my career both in the theatre as a director and designer, and as a printmaker. My engravings are obsessively detailed, many are humorous, while others lead you gently through technique and imagery to deeper questions... My subject matter is diverse but is often rooted in natural imagery. From ‘An Engraver’s Alphabet – Endangered and Extinct’ to my new series ‘Heads of State’, the work asks the viewer to smile first and think later, so ask me about my work and I will tell you a tale from the woods...”

Run from the Gallery and his Studio in Presteigne on the Welsh Borders. A series of one day workshops throughout the year. ‘An introduction to wood engraving’ is aimed primarily at beginners or those who may have tried in the past, lapsed and would like a refresher in this traditional relief printmaking technique.
